The Essex Martyrs Book
The EPC has produced a small 92 page book that contains accounts of various Essex born or Essex burned martyrs.
The accounts are carefuly compiled from "Foxe's Book of Martyrs" by Abishai James Green - 1853.
The Back Reads: "We live at a time of doubt and uncertainty. Many people, including those in high office, seem keen to cast aside the essential truths of the Christian faith. During the sixteenth century, after many hundreds of years in similar ignorance, Englishmen were led to reclaim these vital beliefs; taking their doctrine from the Bible alone. Yet some still clung to the pagan superstitions of a previous age and, led by their champion Mary Tudor, ruthlessly sought to stamp out this new-found freedom. With graphic detail, John Foxe recounts the gripping stories of these courageous men, women and teenagers from Essex, who would not deny their conscience, nor the truth of God's Word, though it cost them everything. Inspiring examples that should challenge each one of us to find out why. What was so much more important to them than their own lives?"
